Each chapter begins with a facing page containing an appropriate graphic image reflecting the text or action. Images of real life locations like Emerson High School, Froebel High School, Rubin’s Confectionery, the Palace Theater, Gary Police Station, and the Miller Beach Bathhouse are intermingled with fictional locations like Crimean Imports to bring the story to life.
Original illustrations by Connecticut artist Claudia Wolf greatly enhance the story. The cover also contains her artwork.
